In summary: Learn how to make the perfect homemade green tea: choose a quality tea (sencha, matcha or gunpowder), heat water to 70-80°C, pour it over the leaves (1 tbsp to 2 g/150 ml), steep for 2-3 minutes (or whisk the matcha), then filter. Tip: pre-rinse the tea, serve hot and enjoy without sugar to take full advantage of the antioxidants.

Which green tea to choose?

Above all, the choice of green tea will determine the quality of your drink. At Kusmi, we recommend that you opt for loose organic green tea: sencha, genmaicha, gyokuro, bancha, each green tea has its particularities. The organic designation guarantees you quality tea without pesticides.

What water temperature is best for green tea?

The first step is of course to heat the water but, already at this step, it gets complicated. What temperature? How to heat your water? Don't panic, here are our little tips.

The best is to use a kettle, which allows you to heat water quickly. To have a tea during a break, this is the ideal solution. Some kettles offer the possibility of precisely choosing the heating temperature. In this case, opt for 80°. If you are using a kettle without a thermostat or a saucepan, the ideal time to turn off the water is when small bubbles appear at the bottom of the container, the boiling temperature.

Be careful, not before: boiling helps evacuate carbon dioxide, this will make your water less acidic and your green tea clearer.

Then let the water sit for a few minutes, then add your green tea leaves in bags or loose. It is important to infuse your tea in simmering water, not boiling. In this way, you do not risk altering the quality of the leaves, nor losing the benefits of this drink.

How long should you let your green tea steep?

This is an important step in making your tea a success. Are you wondering why you shouldn't steep tea for too long? Because if green tea steeps too long, its flavor and taste are simply changed.

If you have opted for loose green tea, place it in the tea ball, then slip it into your cup. Let the tea steep without stirring, for a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes depending on your taste. Be careful though, if you let green tea steep for too long, it releases bitterness. To find out the ideal time according to your preferences, you will have to experiment: this is a good excuse to drink tea even more often. For a first try: refer to the recommendations on your box of tea Kusmi Tea.

Then remove the tea and enjoy.

CoHow to dose green tea?

Again, it's all a question of taste. The perfect dosage ranges between 2 grams and 3 grams for one cup. You will have to do some tests to discover the ideal weight according to your tastes.
