Where are you from pomegranate?

The pomegranate comes from the South and has been harvested for millennia around the Mediterranean basin. This makes it one of the oldest known fruits. Slightly larger than an orange with the appearance of an apple (300 to 350g), the pomegranate turns from green to red when it ripens. It is also a non-climacteric fruit, that is to say it no longer ripens once picked. (practical for conservation) India is the largest producer of pomegranates ahead of Iran and the United States, but most of the fruits consumed in France come from Turkey or Spain. And since it is important to eat seasonal foods, know that pomegranate is a fruit consumed from October to March.

Grenada: what is hidden behind this shell?

Who has never struggled to open a grenade? Let it be said: it’s a fruit that has to be earned! We open it with difficulty, we put our fingers full of it, we let the juice flow (on our white t-shirt), we scatter the seeds all over the four corners of the kitchen...

Our advice: persist because the pomegranate contains a thousand virtues.

The uncontrollable little seeds that make up the pomegranate are called arils and are surrounded by a sweet, tangy-tasting pulp. Pomegranate is particularly appreciated for its sweet, healthy and low-calorie side. Indeed, it is a fruit particularly rich in vitamin C, but also in vitamin E and group B vitamins. Pomegranate is 3 times richer in antioxidants than green tea. This fruit is also a very good source of potassium, phosphorus and magnesium. The icing on the cake or rather pomegranate on the cake: it is low in calories. There are only 71.1 kcal per 100 g of fruit.
