fruits rouges

In summary: Red fruits (strawberries, raspberries, currants) and wild fruits (blueberries, blackcurrants, cranberries) are rich in anthocyanins, vitamin C, fiber and polyphenols. They strengthen immunity, protect cells from oxidative stress, promote digestion and help control weight. Their fruity aroma makes them perfect in infusions, smoothies or desserts, offering taste and well-being on a daily basis.

What are red fruits?

Let's call a spade, a spade, generally all fruits or berries of the red color are red fruits: it doesn't get any more complicated than that, right? What if we told you about our favorites?

  • The strawberry

Did you know that strawberries were a “false fruit”? The fleshy red part is the receptacle of the strawberry flower, while its fruits are the small grains that dot it. In the Middle Ages, the nobility believed that it grew too close to the ground to be appreciated. But later, strawberries took their revenge: Louis XIV loved them so much that he had them planted in a large part of the famous “King’s vegetable garden”.

  • Blackcurrant

It appears in numerous writings dating back several centuries, but it was its leaves that were prized for their medicinal properties. Today, because it is very acidic fresh, we almost mainly enjoy it cooked, in the form of jams, sorbets, tarts... It is so rich in vitamin C that it is often called a superfruit: it contains three times more than the orange!

  • Blackberry

It is the forest fruit that is most frequently found in the wild, the one that can easily be nibbled along trails. Geographically, it originates from the Caucasus Mountains, where it appeared more than 2000 years ago. But Greek mythology says that it comes from a bramble from the blood of the Titans, shed during their struggles against the Gods of Olympus.

  • Raspberry

The origins of the raspberry? We have heard that... because the raspberry tree has the scientific name "rubus idaeus", it is said that it was born on Mount Ida and that the gods of Olympus adored its fruits. According to another myth, “rubus” meaning “bramble”, it was Zeus’s nurse, Ida, who colored the raspberry red by pricking herself to pick it. So, myth or legend? Regardless, the raspberry is a red fruit that has been consumed for centuries and appears to be the true king of red fruits, with its very fragrant flavor that is both sweet and tangy.
